Today Mont-Blanc participated in the Birds-of-Feather session titled “Exascale Research – The European Approach” held this morning, from 9-10am at the Conference Center in Leipzig, Germany. The session was organized in collaboration with the other two European Exascale Projects DEEP and CRESTA.The panel consisted of project representatives from the three European Exascale projects CRESTA, DEEP and Mont-Blanc, who discussed the European approach towards Exascale supercomputers. The session started with short presentations from each of the three projects to describe their progress followed by an open discussion with questions and answers to the audience and panellists.
The Mont-Blanc project presented the system architecture of its first integrated ARM-based HPC system. The panelist of this project has been Alex Ramirez, Team Leader at Barcelona Supercomputing Center and coordinator of the Mont-Blanc project. He described the compute node architecture, the system interconnect, the packaging infrastructure, and discussed preliminary performance evaluation results. He also presented briefly the status of the Mont-Blanc target applications, and the future plans regarding HPC software porting to ARM platforms.
